KLEINE REISE CLUB was Eddie's second gig in Europe. Formerly a bath house with tiled walls and soap dishes still in tact, this was one of my favorite venues. It's located in the KREUZBERG district.
Catching the midnight train to Paris. Romantic? sort of. We had internal flights pre-booked for this tour but they were cancelled due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland. It felt as though we were on The Amazing Race, trying to get to Paris in time. Luck was on our side, we booked the last two seats on the last train. I was very excited to look out the train window and see Paris, but first we had to switch trains at 3 A.M some where else in Germany, then the train taking us to Paris was delayed by an hour. It was a long night but we arrived in Paris with just enough time to drink some wine in our room and head off to the next gig.

What happens when a wife travels with her husband on his first European DJ tour? What would be a 5 day "work" trip turns into a delightful 3 week European culinary and sightseeing tour!
Before his first gig in Frankfurt we took the train south to Heidelberg for a rejuvenating three days of time zone and cultural adjustment. After previous success finding fabulous budget apartments in Vancouver, Victoria and Paris (click here to see photos of our Paris apartment), I couldn't resist seeing what I could find in Germany. Once again, I found gems in Heidelberg and Berlin for less than a hotel would have cost and with much more character. I am not afraid to say that I am the Queen of finding incredible travel accommodation!
What I said above regarding a culinary tour may be a little bit of an exaggeration. The three days in Heidelberg we ate mostly bratwurst, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. Usually I'm not one to go back to the same place more than once but we found ourselves becoming regulars at a restaurant located on Bismarckplatz, the cobblestone pedestrian street that is popular with tourists. It was the most satisfying meal especially when washed down with a tall cold Lowenbrau!
Heidelberg was a marvelous three days of cafe sitting, castle viewing, and beer drinking. It was the perfect introduction to Germany and I was very excited that Frankfurt and Berlin were the next stops on our itinerary.
If you've been following my blog since last summer you would have noticed a lot of wedding posts, which were mostly weddings that Amara and I photographed together. For the last 4 years Amara has been running her own successful photography business in the Edmonton area. Meanwhile, I've been keeping busy in Banff working three day jobs, traveling the world with my husband, and in between, helping Amara. We had so much fun working together last summer that we decided to make it permanent. Additionaly, we found that our different styles of photography compliment each other and as a result the client recieves a more dynamic range of photographs.
Amara and I will be serving clients in Lake Louise, Banff, Calgary and Edmonton. We are very excited about this new path in our careers and hope to branch out even further by welcoming clients in other provinces and internationally.

For those of you that don't know, I live in Banff Alberta, Canada. Currently it is raining AND snowing and 2 degrees celsius outside, yes, at the end of May. If you live in Banff you know this is normal. When asked, we Banffiites like to defend our decision to live here by saying, "But it's so beautiful here! Oh, and the laid back life style, you just can't beat it!", we say as we scrape ice off our car windshields on the first day of Spring. All of that is true but it won't stop me from cursing this damn weather as I sit inside my dark apartment, applying lotion to my dry hands every ten minutes. I've convinced myself that I have Seasonal Affective Disorder which is really just an excuse for me to sit on my couch, watch movies, pack on 10 pounds, and not feel bad about it.
The title of this blog is relevant, I'm getting to that in a second. Before I begin wallowing on the couch I wanted to spread some cheer to my fellow Banffites, Albertans and everybody else putting up with crap weather today. I want to remind you that there are magical faraway places in the world that are full of vibrant colours, blue skies, sunshine, juicy fresh fruit and places where it's so warm that sweat oozes from your pores. One such magical place is called Isla Mujeres, "The Island of Women" in Mexico. The photos below are all taken from the back seat of our moped or golf cart, both of which are the primary modes of transportation on this very small, 8km long island. If you have been to Cancun and you really enjoyed it, then please, return to Cancun and pretend you never saw these photographs.
